Eyebrow talk! The DOs and DON'Ts.

Eyebrowsssss! |
Hello!
So a little while ago one of my friends and i were talking about eyebrows and since then i have really been noticing everyone's brow shape and colour. I know this sounds a tad creepy but literally everyone i have been hanging out with, i have been subtly taking notes of their eyebrows. I have kinda noticed the way different colours on different people look better or worst. I actually suggested that my best friend filled in her eyebrows to see what it looked like and she said from then on she has to fill them in!
I have always heard Tanya Burr talking about her brows and how she likes them to be defined and to 'shape her face' but i never really bothered with the hype. I think it was because all the times i ever filled in my brows they looked way to over done and i thought i looked really manly and almost like i had done my self up in drag. I have fairly large eyebrows anyway that have a natural curve that is slightly curved.
There are so many different colours and products to put through your eyebrows and i think it can be a bit overwhelming. You could buy an eyebrow pencil (pretty much every brand do these), a gel type substance (Sleek, Benefit), an eyebrow 'pen' (NYX), eyeshadow (most brands), eyebrow this and that. So to decide is quite tricky and i spent a long time contemplating which route to go down. This all depends on what you would prefer, and i advise you to go with something cheaper before buying a high end product as you might not end up liking it. I also think that it is a really good idea to visit the makeup counters if you are planning on getting a higher end product and asking for them to apply it for you so you can have a look and see which colour you like. Make sure you are also assertive and ask the woman/man to apply it how you think you would want it because if not, you could be getting a false idea of what the product would look like when it was on. This actually happened to me yesterday and the lady applied WAY too much on me and i looked odd for the rest of the day.
I actually decided to go with the advice of friends and YouTubers and purchase 'Charcoal Brown' from Mac. It is a really beautiful colour and i think i will be able to mix it with Omega (slighly lighter brown/grey) to make it lighter if i would like.
I apply it with an angled brush and only touch it very gently onto my brows in the parts i think they could do with some extra definition. Make sure you don't press too hard with an eyeshadow as you could end up with more definition than you intended.
I've come up with some Dos and Don'ts for eyebrows:
DOs
- Choose a colour which is 2 or more shades lighter than your hair colour if you are brunette (light or dark). This will prevent your brows from looking way too dark.
- If you are using an eyeshadow, try to stroke the shadow, using an angled brush, through your brows to prevent a solid, block colour.
- If you are using a pencil, make sure it is sharpened! You want as much control over the shape as you can, and a blunt pencil will not help this.
DON'Ts
- Avoid using a colour that is too red if you are a brunette, this will just stand out and be obvious you have filled in your brows.
- Try not to pluck your eyebrows down to a line of just one hair! Although you might like having no hair, it will just mean you'll have to draw them back on, and making it very obvious you're doing so.
- Tadpole Brows. where you leave a fair amount of hair at the inner part of your brow and then have a very thin line for the rest of your brow. This doesn't always look flattering, so try and thicken the line up on the outer part, or thin out the inner area.
- Do NOT use black! Whether it is pencil or shadow, this is pretty much ALWAYS a disaster. Even if your eyebrows are pretty much black (like mine), black will not look good and make it look very obvious and harsh.
Love from Emma! xox
